SUMMARY:Naturalization Ceremony/Constitution Day
DESCRIPTION:National Park Service News Release\n\nFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 11\, 2018\n\nSusan Cook 402-223-3514\n\n \n\nCelebrate Constitution Day and Welcome New Citizens at a Naturalization Ceremony at Homestead National Monument of America\n\n \n\nIn celebration of Constitution Day\, Monday\, September 17\, 2018\, Homestead National Monument of America will host a United States Citizenship and Naturalization Ceremony at 2 p.m. Over 30 new citizens will take their Oath of Allegiance to the United States at the ceremony\, which will take place at the Homestead Education Center. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend. \n\n \n\nConstitution Day\, also called Citizenship Day\, is a federally-recognized observance that occurs every year on September 17th\, the day the U.S. Constitution was signed. It exists to celebrate the Constitution and American citizenship\, including citizenship attained through naturalization.\n\n \n\nNaturalization is the process by which U.S. Citizenship is conferred upon foreign citizens or nationals after fulfilling a set of requirements established by Congress. After naturalization\, foreign-born citizens enjoy all the same benefits\, rights\, and responsibilities that the Constitution gives to native-born U.S. Citizens\, including the right to vote.\n\n \n\n"The Homestead Act had a big impact upon immigration in the United States. People came from all over the world to pursue their American Dream\, and the Homestead Act allowed many of them to achieve it\," stated Homestead National Monument of America's Superintendent Mark Engler.\n\n \n\nThis is the second naturalization ceremony to take place at Homestead National Monument of America this year\, with the first having occurred in June in celebration of Flag Day.\n\n \n\nRemember\, Homestead National Monument of America has an exciting schedule of events planned for 2018. Keep up with the latest information by following us on Twitter (HomesteadNM) and Facebook (Homestead National Monument of America).\n\nHomestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice\, Nebraska.
