County Jail Open House Tours

The Gage County Sheriff’s office will host an open house at the county jail on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon.

During the open house, at 612 Lincoln St., in Beatrice, tours of the sheriff’s office and detention facility will be given.

In November, Gage County voters will decide the fate of a bond issue that would finance construction of a new jail. Ameritas Investment Corporation, in charge of creating the bond for the county, estimates the bond to cost $11,365,000.

The special election will be held on Nov. 10.

The current county jail, built in 1977, is a 30-bed facility that routinely runs at full capacity or over, according to Gage County Sheriff Millard “Gus” Gustafson. When there is no room in the current jail for inmates, those inmates must be housed in other counties at a cost of $60 per day per inmate, plus any necessary medical costs.
