Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. at Homestead National Monument

In recognition of the 25th Anniversary of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, Homestead National Monument of America will show the film Citizen King: American Experience. The film will be shown at the Homestead Education Center on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. Citizen King is a powerful in-depth examination of both King?s public and private life. The film emphasizes the evolving ideology of one of the most influential men in American History.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929. He was a Baptist minister and the most recognizable leader of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and ?60s. He was assassinated in April 1968 at the early age of 39. He is honored throughout our nation with memorials and tributes. National and state historic sites have been created to forever remember Dr. King?s legacy.
